Now, let’s check out a few other trends we noticed on the 2025 list:
Olivia and Liam Top the List
Just like last year (and the five years before that), Olivia and Liam top the list for girl’s names and boy’s names, respectively.
Olivia has appeared on name lists since the late 1800s, but didn’t break into the top 10 until the early 2000s. By the 2010s, it was ranking near the top until it achieved the #1 spot.
The name Liam had a different arc. Liam started out less common in the U.S. until the 1980s. After a slow rise in the 1990s, its popularity exploded in the 2000s and really took off in the 2010s and 2020s.
The Fastest-Rising Names are Unique K Names
Kasai, a boy’s name with Japanese origins that means “Fire,” rose 1,180 spots and entered the top 1,000 names for the first time.
For girls, Klarity (an alternate spelling of Clarity, which means “Being clear, coherent”) rose 1,396 spots to break into the top 1,000.
Other girl’s names that increased in rank include Rynlee, Ailanny, Naylani, Madisson, Liora, Merritt, Jaslyn, Kyomi, and Alara. Names that are both growing in popularity and nearing the top include Ailany, Sienna, Scottie, and Margot.
Boy’s names growing in popularity include Akari, Eziah, Jasai, Neithan, Kael, Landry, Haziel, Syaire, and Brewer. Those inching ever-closer to the top of the list include Eithan, Atlas, Adriel, Cooper, and Bennett.
